Where technology meets teamwork
Staying current
Epic's Hosting group works on the edge of technology, riding the fine line between keeping our systems up and performing well and implementing new technology to make sure we stay on the cutting-edge. We take pride in blending the proven and reliable with the new and innovative.
Cohesion and variety
We have many of the traditional teams found in IT shops — Network, Storage, VMware, Windows, etc. — however we collaborate and work together on projects in a converged fashion to match the converging infrastructure we deploy our solution on top of; it is not uncommon for a team member to have responsibilities on more than one team.
Simplify IT operations
We have a large focus on automation using Golang, Puppet, and Ansible, to take away the mundane tasks and focus our talented engineers on problems that are harder to solve. We are always striving to accomplish more with less.
Meet the Team
Many IT jobs feel like they're centered on helping people understand technology, or working towards increased profits. We get to work toward better health for all the patients that interact with our technology, and that feels good.
The security team works closely with both infrastructure and customer administration teams to help ensure our customers and their data is protected. Security is increasingly at the forefront of our customers' minds and I enjoy finding creative solutions that will keep them secure, but also allow us to provide quick and effective support.
As a Network Engineer for Epic Hosting, I really enjoy creating and supporting the underlying network infrastructure. Hosting at Epic is fast-paced, and the constant challenges and talented co-workers that surround me have pushed me to grow on both a personal and professional level.
Doing what we do affords our community members the ability to provide a stable, high-performance experience to their end users without managing the infrastructure needed to engineer such a solution so that these healthcare organizations can focus more on their primary mission – providing excellent care to their patients.
Hosting demands high performance from data storage, and that means we not only learn about new technology as it becomes available but also make the most of the equipment we put into production. Designing new uses for existing infrastructure, integrating larger installations, and introducing new solutions as technology changes keeps the data flowing and gives us new learning experiences every day.
As the front line for Epic Hosting, the Network Operations Center interacts firsthand with each of our customers and hears how important our support is for them. We focus on vigilant monitoring, quick response times, and a strong relationship with the customer teams that we interact with every day.
Being an operational database administrator allows for a unique opportunity to review and manage multiple levels of the technological stack; from the storage, to the Linux OS of our servers, to the Epic application itself. managing the database encompasses a myriad of projects and tasks, such as capacity management, environment strategy, maintenance planning and customer support, which provides a rewarding and engaging experience that affects the lives of patients and providers.
I love being a part of a team that truly engineers new solutions to problems. I appreciate knowing I’m able to help our healthcare providers give their patients the best care possible. I've learned new languages, expanded my knowledge of DevOps and Infrastructure as code. Working with team members of varying backgrounds and experience has pushed me to better myself professionally and personally.
Epic really puts a lot of trust into its employees. If you have an idea for a project that would be beneficial, you can make it happen. You’re building tools for you and your team that will make everyone’s job easier and enhance hosting’s ability to scale. That feels good; every new project is a chance to learn a new technical skill that furthers professional growth.
Epic prides itself on great technology and fantastic technical support. As a Cloud Engineer, I’ve had the ability to lead projects that live in the public cloud, mentor new staff on the team, build new solutions, write code that is used in our environments, and stay on top of the newest technologies in the public cloud.
