I had a few friends who worked at Epic. They talked about Epic here and there, and made me interested in learning more. When I came to Madison to visit, I was amazed. After learning more about Epic and the company culture and philosophy, I knew I wanted to be here.
My biggest project has been working on getting our system ready for an overhaul of the medical coding system. It was a company-wide effort that required coordination across many developers. I worked on developing the core infrastructure, code, and libraries that were used by the rest of the company.
What gets me excited is knowing that I am directly developing software and functionality that customers depend on. After a few years, I actually started seeing customers using things that I developed, and that is very rewarding. I also have the freedom to identify areas that need improvement - and improve them.
My day is spent working on projects ranging from programming to working on designs and mockups to working on presentations. I like to spend lunch with my friends.
Don't hesitate to ask questions or to dig for information, and don't assume that the veterans are always correct. Sometimes a fresh perspective can make a big difference.
