Why Epic?

As soon as I visited Epic for my in-person interview, I realized that I would have a lot more opportunities to grow at Epic than other places. Epic emphasizes customer work as well as internal opportunities, meaning that I could work with customers on a daily basis while focusing some of my time on internal training and helping create new and efficient install processes. Epic isn't a cookie-cutter company; I love the freedom to grow while utilizing all of my personal strengths.

I knew this was the right place for me as soon as I walked on campus for the on-site interview. Not only is our campus amazing, but the people are down-to-earth - you can immediately tell that Epic's overall atmosphere is positive.

How much freedom do you have in your day-to-day work?

At Epic, we are typically given an end-result or goal to work towards, and then are set free to reach that goal however we please. Each day I have goals and tasks to complete, but the freedom I'm given to achieve these goals is astounding. Epic really embraces creativity and new approaches.

What makes you excited to come to work every day?

I love the challenges I face every day, as well as the unexpected. As much as we plan our days, many things come up last minute that force us to switch focus on to something new. I love "organized chaos" - having a good idea about how to handle issues but also having the ability to switch gears at any moment to tackle something new.

What's the most important lesson you've learned in your time here?

To take a step back and realize that what we are doing is for the greater good. It's easy to get lost in your work and day to day tasks, but so much more fulfilling when you put your tasks in perspective. We are changing the quality of healthcare that our families and friends receive - both directly and indirectly - and that is an amazing accomplishment.

What could a typical day look like for you?

A lot of customer contact! I am usually on the phone with customers for a couple of hours a day, then following up accordingly with documentation and notes based on our discussion and decisions. Additionally, there is usually some travel thrown in as well as on-site presentations. If it is a Friday (most of the company is in the office on Fridays), I am usually meeting with the team internally or I'm talking customers through issues and next steps to follow up on our week. Always a full day, but always a fulfilling one.
