1. There's meaningful work to be done in healthcare; one isn't focused largely on the bottom line
2. Industry research indicated Epic is a leader as far as product development and business outcomes
3. To work on lofty goals in sandals
It's all hands on deck, no matter how new you are; you get opportunities to make a difference from the get-go. There are many chances to learn and strong people from whom to learn. Most of all, having worked for 8 years elsewhere, it's really quite something to not constantly be hearing "is that profitable/cost effective?" or "that's too different."
As an Executive Staffer, I've been involved in analyses of Epic's corporate climate, setting hiring standards, finding inroads to collaborate with local organizations, organizing a high-level summit for customer CEOs, framing internal policies to help attract new employees and to sustain employee productivity.
Long-distance running, making feasts for family and friends, classical singing.
No two weeks have been alike, but recurring work include ideas meetings, serving as an external liaison on behalf of the CEO, trends analyses, and fine tuning internal practices and processes. I'd say I'm at my desk about half the time working the phone, figuring out numbers, writing people, or trouble-shooting ideas. The rest of the time, I'm problem-solving in groups, implementing projects around campus, attending classes, conventions and recruiting trips, and occasionally supporting customers.
