I got my first introduction to computer programming through analysis work with the med school and found it way more interesting then the engineering itself. I knew I didn't want to go into classic engineering, so when Epic recruited at my school I thought it could be a great fit. Once I visited the campus, I was sold. The culture here is amazing. Even in the short time I spent here for my interview I knew that I would be surrounded by incredibly smart, hard-working people who don't take themselves too seriously and still produce amazing work. More than three years later the people and the culture are still one of my favorite things about Epic.
I like that we actually do make a difference in patient care and that we're making healthcare software better and safer. Life at Epic is people united behind this front. Even with all the different projects going on, it's clear we all have a common goal. Epic also provides an incredible working environment. The training facilities are top of the line and the campus is a wonderful place to stop and look around. I know it sounds lame, but when people from out of town come to visit, I really do bring them to work to show it off!
From my position in Foundations, the core of Epic's software, I get to see a lot of small applications come to life. My favorite project so far has been working with a product that automatically moves information from a test system to a live system. The team working on this product is very small, so I've gotten to be involved in every step of the process from design through validation, creating training and then helping customers adopt the new way of doing things. At this past User's Group Meeting (when thousands of our customers come to Madison to teach and learn from each other) we had our first users' forum for the project, and it was with great pride that I got to talk about all that we've been able to do and our plans for the future.
Outside of Epic I play and coach volleyball, enjoy the beautiful parks and areas Madison has to offer, spend time with friends (both Epic and non-Epic!), and plan for my wedding this June.
