Background

Hometown: Sheboygan, WI
Education: Music Education and Business, University of Wisconsin
Professional: Waitress extraordinaire, flute teacher; when I decided to work at Epic, I was working at a hotel as the Assistant Food and Beverage Director.

What do you like about working at Epic?

Epic life is a mix of serious and quirky. We have an intense focus on our customers and improving our software, but try to have fun along the way. The things I like best about working at Epic: the variety (no customer or day is ever the same), meeting and working with smart and interesting people, the opportunity to travel, and knowing I am helping to improve clinical workflows and the patient experience at the hospitals I work with.

What results have you achieved for our customers and for you?

It's always great when one of my customers reaches a big milestone in their project. One customer accomplishment that I am particularly proud of is my Minnesota client's implementation of real-time trauma documentation in Epic. They are a level-one trauma center and see thousands of critically ill or injured patients each year. Although trauma documentation in an electronic system is tricky because there is so much going on for the patient in such a short amount of time, the nurses at this customer site started documenting trauma visits in Epic the FIRST day that they were documenting in the new system, and have now been successfully doing so for 6 months.

What's your favorite project to date at Epic?

My favorite project so far has been working on the ASAP Forum, where people from most of our customers come to share and learn about their use of Epic's Emergency Department system. We started the Forum a few years ago - it was something our application team hadn't done before. I was involved in every aspect of the initial Forum - writing a proposal, getting approval, choosing topics and organizing the agenda, recruiting presenters, reviewing presentations, coordinating volunteers, communicating updates to the team, etc. It was really rewarding to go through the entire process start to finish and finally see the event take place.

What interests do you have outside of work?

Travel, running, baking, trying new restaurants, my puppy Stanley, and reading.
