As a company at the forefront of creating healthcare software, there are of course a lot of challenges and obstacles we have to meet and solve each day. But more than that, I think the seriousness of the work we do keeps everything else in a light-hearted perspective, from the "wear clothes" dress-code, and the wedding music that plays throughout the offices anytime we sign a new customer, to serving pie to everyone just because it's 3/14. It's a company that believes that doing good and having fun are not mutually exclusive goals, and in fact complement each other; for every superman award given to someone for doing something awesome, there's a kryptonite award playfully given to someone for doing something funny or embarrassing.
My favorite project at Epic has been the development of an in-house learning management system. It's a project that I was directly involved with from the beginning. We built everything from the ground up, and got to tackle interesting challenges like reconciling old data and legacy systems with a new strategic vision of how training and learning would work at Epic going forward.
The people who I work with are great, and there's a lot of teamwork/bouncing around ideas. It seems like I still learn something new every day.
I like to swim in the summer and snowboard in the winter. I also love playing poker and pretty much any other card game in existence. In general, between Madison, Milwaukee, and Chicago, there's always something fun going on. And spectator sports (i.e. football) fandom is crazy in Madison. I've been fully converted to a Badgers fan since moving here.
