The people and culture at Epic are unique. The co-workers are smart, hardworking, insightful, and very helpful, and they come from vastly different backgrounds - engineers like me, science majors, language majors, philosophy majors. I did not expect to see such an eclectic group in a software company. The flat org chart and the open door policy makes it a fun and innovative place to work and thrive. I love the fact that my job is challenging. Once you have mastered one area, a new challenge is thrown at you in order to help you grow by pushing you out of comfort zone. Pi day (on 3.14 at 1:59PM) and the Halloween party make it a fun environment.
I have not had the same role for any 2 years at Epic. I've done testing, support, development, implementation, knowledge creation, sales, project management, and people management thus far at Epic. The environment is fast paced and I like the energy.
I've had the pleasure of helping two of our largest customers implement our software. Both of them are now live and their physicians, nurses, and patients are enjoying the benefits of the long hours that we (Epic and customer teams) spent getting them up and running successfully. Personally, it's a joy to see the cool things our customers are doing with our products; for example, being able in improve early breast cancer screening and better diabetes treatment and screening.
My latest project has probably been the most exciting. We were implementing all of our products for a 20+ hospital system with aggressive timelines that included a brand new all digital hospital and over 500 [customer and Epic] team members working on the project. My role as the Technical Lead on the project was to help plan, guide and implement the technology needs for the project.
My typical work week includes catching up with Epic and customer teams to review the implementation plan for the week ahead, highlight the successes from the past week, and focus on the risks for the coming week and to make sure all teams understand the integration points. I work with leadership groups to do the same exercise at a macro level. I make sure our development is on track for my customers, and should we hit a snag, we find out co-workers invariably have a clever answer to the problem. And most importantly - I have fun and enjoy the process, not just the end goal.
