Epic offers an atmosphere that is refreshingly irreverent. I wanted a career where I could write code and not wade around in corporate silliness, and Epic offered that.
At Epic, I started working on our billing products. After about a year, I moved to the Cardiology team - which wasn't really a team at the time - just a handful of developers working together in a room. I spent about six months in a conference room with eight other people, building Cardiology from the ground up. From there, I became a team/product lead, starting Stork (our OB product) from scratch. I stuck with Stork for about three and a half years, and now I'm working on Lucy (our personal health record).
I was able to lead a brand new product from scratch through implementation - that was extremely gratifying. In doing so, I've had two chances to present at our yearly User's Group Meeting, been to HIMSS (a large industry trade show) three times, and have quite a few doctors across the country who I consider friends.
I love working on Lucy, our new PHR. The team is incredibly intelligent and they're all as crazy as I am. It's nice to work with people who are as motivated as you.
I really get a kick out of being able to draw order out of disorder. Seeing an impossible project and laying a path to its completion is really rewarding.
Um - I'm a computer gaming nerd. I also knit, play cards, and dote over my dog Abby.
