We are very proud of the work we do to support the transformation of patient care worldwide. We also work in many other ways to make a positive impact. Donations, volunteering, giving talks, hosting community events and minimizing our fossil fuel usage are some of the ways we make our community stronger.
For example, employees vote for the philanthropic initiatives they want to support and Epic makes donations based on the vote percentages. Epic supports more than 120 organizations through this program.
Minimizing our environmental impact is another way we make a difference. Our software removes the need for paper medical charts and saves tons of carbon dioxide emissions by replacing face-to-face patient visits with virtual ones. One of our sites estimated that annually our system saved 1,044 tons of paper for medical charts and 92,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions (and the associated travel) from virtual visits.
We are looking for more ways to reduce our use of fossil fuels by recycling, buying locally when possible and investing in alternative fuel sources. Epic is the largest geothermal installation in the Midwest. There are approximately 3,600 geothermal wells at Epic and more than 9,000 solar panels covering 20 acres.
